On the 20th April, The Music Academy, Chennai hosts a concert. But what's new? This has all the fresh voices from the industry - Sakthishree Gopalan, Ramya NSK, Mukesh, Srinivas, Nikhil Mathew, Lady Kash, Sharmila and Ajeesh. And the best part is that this is a fund raiser for a noble cause. The proceedings of the concert will be turned over to 53 children affected by Thalassaemia, for a year's medical expenses. Thalassaemia is a genetic blood disorder, that affects children, making their bodies inefficient to produce red blood cells, calling for constant blood transfusion.
Sangarsh is organized by the students of Rotaract Club of College of Engineering, Guindy, Chennai. The concert was first held in 2003, and year after year they have been turning over the profits towards various causes for the needy sections of the society. Their first mission provided motorized vehicles for the physically challenged students and staff members of the college. In the following years, they have helped in treating patients suffered from Cancer, AIDS and Polio, donated an ambulance and reconstructed run-down orphanages and homes for the under privileged. Sangarsh '12 was aimed at helping two causes - renovating Government High School, Thirumullaivoyal and funding heart surgeries for six children suffering from Congenital Heart Defects, through Dr. Mani Children Heart Foundation; both the tasks were accomplished successfully.
